The latest addition to the Z lens family is the NIKKOR Z 800m f/6.3 VR S, a uniquely portable super-telephoto full-frame prime lens, perfect for shooting birds, wildlife, aircraft, motor sports and winter sports.
This tough yet remarkably lightweight S-line lens brings the dynamism of distant subjects close in fantastic clarity. Users can follow even erratically moving subjects with a fluidity previously unheard of at 800mm – and open up their creative possibilities with steady handheld shooting.
Image quality is pin-sharp, whether shooting stills or video, and AF performance is exceptionally fast, smooth and reliable. In-lens optical VR keeps shots steady, and Synchro VR allows up to 5.5 stops of compensation when this lens is paired with the Z 9. In addition, this super-telephoto lens supports use of Z teleconverters, which can extend the reach to 1120mm or 1600mm.
Thanks to its balanced, lightweight design, made possible by the Z mount and a Phase Fresnel (PF) lens element, the lens is approximately 2.3kg lighter and 16% shorter than its F-mount counterpart, and its centre of gravity is closer to the camera body – making it easier to pan and stop smoothly when hand held.
Writing to you from the NPS Service Center from a major sports event, one can observe just how much the world has changed over the last few months. On the positive side, looking at the current status of the pandemic, we can see the speed in which our society has almost gone back to normal. But on a less positive note, everyone is also very aware of the conflicts playing a major role in many peoples’ lives.
Moving on to Nikon, we have also gone through a large transformation over these past few months. We have worked closely with many dedicated imaging professionals worldwide, and have carefully listened to their feedback. As a result, we have managed to take some big steps: our mirrorless system is finally completed with a capable and robust pro camera. It’s a true flagship, combining high resolution with ultra-fast shooting speeds, and ground-breaking 8K 60p RAW video all at the same time.
During moments such as this, we realise it makes sense to keep our hopes up at all times. Thanks to your support, we are able to develop great products so you can do a better job in achieving your goals. Good luck and I hope to talk to you soon!

A new update of remote shooting system NX Field adds support for the Z 7II, Z 6II, Z 7, and Z 6 cameras.* Support for the Z 9 will be added in a future update.
The update enables remote operation of the silent shooting function, meaning remote cameras can be used even in situations that require silent operation.
There is also support for Face- and Eye-detection AF during remote shooting and interval timer shooting with both compatible digital SLR and mirrorless cameras from a distance.
*WT-7 wireless transmitters must be connected to cameras for use with the NX Field system.
