Power to the image

astonishingly fast and accurate, the D6 is the holy grail for sports and news photographers

Taking speed and precision performance to new levels, the new Nikon D6 boasts a powerful new Autofocus engine, incredibly fast real-time image transfer, a state-of-the-art EXPEED 6 processer and higher-than-ever ISO.

Tracking and capturing movement has never been better, thanks to a customisable Group-Area AF system. With 105 all-selectable cross-type sensors (while shooting in Auto-Area AF or 3D tracking) users can define their starting focus point, such as the subject’s eyes, and have total control of the subject during the moments of making the shot.

AF sensitivity drops to -4.5 EV at the central focus point and -4 EV for the remaining points, so difficult lighting conditions won’t get in your way when it comes to getting the killer image. A new Auto White Balance algorithm ensures skin tone and colour are captured better than ever.

You’ll never miss a shot with a D6 because full AF/AE is available up to 14fps. The viewfinder view is stabilised thanks to a redesigned mirror mechanism which reduces bounce.

Selecting and sending shots is incredibly easy with a sensitive and intuitive touchscreen. With one flick of your finger, images can be prioritised, queued and saved. Voice memos, copyrights and ratings can be quickly applied to pictures.

Top speed image transfer with super-fast in-camera Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections gets shots to the picture desk, fast.

A favourite feature carried over from the D5 is the fully sealed titanium alloy body of the D6, so you can keep shooting in extremes of weather.

Dual card slots, which accept CFexpress or XQD cards, enable the recording of JPEG+ and JPEG images. The secondary card slot can be assigned small and medium JPEGS for faster image transfer.

So, then, the remarkable new D6: an all-powerful workhorse ready for the most demanding pro needs.

D6 The Essentials

With a 20.8MP sensor with 14fps burst capabilities, the new Nikon D6 leaves nothing to chance. It has a fully redesigned AutoFocus system, super-tough body and a super-fast, in-camera 105-point fully selectable, all cross-type sensor AF system. There’s a new focal point layout with Group-Area AF and even more customisable settings. AF sensitivity is down to -4.5 EV at the central focus point, and -4 EV at all other points. In-camera Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections mean sports and action photographers can land their pictures on editors’ desks ahead of their competitors.

perspective shift

Looking back, it’s incredible how quickly times have changed from my last column to this one. Covid-19 struck our global community with grim results. Perspectives shifted, and maybe now even more than ever, it is photojournalists’ role to document what is going on right now. New products as presented in this issue to support that mission, but right now everybody’s health and safety is what matters most. We at Nikon would like to thank all those out there who put their life and health at stake to make a difference. Nikon technologies and Nikon employees from all divisions try to contribute and support them. We will keep on developing leading healthcare and analysis equipment and imaging technologies to provide the tools to work on today’s greatest challenges.
